Getaway
About This Machine
Getaway, designed by Bob Betor with artwork by R. Michael Torrey and manufactured by Allied Leisure Industries of Hialeah, Florida in November 1977, is a solid-state electronic pinball machine from one of the industry's lesser-known manufacturers. Its Cops and Robbers theme reflects the public's fascination with law enforcement and crime dramas in the 1970s.
Getaway boasts an impressive array of features for its time. The machine's three-flipper design allows for more varied gameplay strategies, while the two slingshots, ten star rollovers, and six standup targets provide additional challenges for players. Four drop targets, two spinning posts, and two pop bumpers add to the excitement. One of the most distinctive aspects of Getaway is the trio of lanes on the right side of the playfield, where moving gates change the direction of the ball, creating a dynamic playing experience.
The game supports three- or five-ball play and is convertible to add-a-ball operation, highlighting the manufacturer's flexibility for different markets. As an example of Allied Leisure's solid-state output from the late 1970s, Getaway is an interesting entry for collectors of off-brand pinball history.
