About This Machine

Fun-Spot is a Bally electro-mechanical bingo machine set up for novelty play, designed by Don Hooker and carrying an Amusement Park - Carnival theme. Rather than flippers and bumpers, the playfield offers 25 trap holes, and the backglass presents six bingo cards; up to six coins can be played per game. Unlike most bingo machines of its era, this novelty model does not award replays - the replay version of the game is Bally's 1960 'Barrel O' Fun'.

A couple of details set Fun-Spot apart visually. The cabinet has wood side rails, and the backglass, unusually, does not carry the familiar 'Bally' logo - a quirk that collectors enjoy pointing out. IPDB does not record an exact year of production for this model (its model number is 652), though its close relationship to 'Barrel O' Fun' places it in the same general period around 1960.

As a novelty-play bingo game, Fun-Spot offers a window into a distinct branch of Bally's coin-op history, when the company's bingo machines shared arcade floors with conventional flipper pinball. Its carnival artwork, logo-free backglass, and no-replay operation make it an interesting study piece for anyone exploring how these games were adapted for locations where replay awards were not permitted.
