Arrowhead
About This Machine
Arrowhead, released by Bally Manufacturing Corporation in November 1938, is a flipperless electro-mechanical pinball machine from pinball's pre-war era. Carrying model number 305, it arrived while Bally was churning out a steady stream of novelty and payout-style games, and it reflects the pragmatic, operator-focused design of the period.
A key feature is its configurable play: the operator could set the game for 1, 2, 4, or 5 ball play, letting the machine be tuned to different locations and price-to-play expectations. The playfield carries 24 trap holes, giving each plunge an element of chance and challenge. The cabinet is distinctive too, with a short backbox and a coin slide on the front, and the game operates on single-coin play only - Bally offered a companion version, 1938's 'Eureka', that could run as either single-coin or multiple-coin.
Little else is documented about Arrowhead beyond its technical specifications, making it an intriguing minor entry in Bally's prolific 1930s catalog for enthusiasts of pre-flipper pinball.
