4 Roses

4 Roses is an electro-mechanical (EM) pinball machine from Williams, released in December 1962. Designed by Steve Kordek with artwork by George Molentin, it carries a 'Pageantry' theme and was produced in a confirmed run of 1,250 units, of which 915 went to the USA and Canada and 335 were exported.

Gameplay is built around two flippers, three pop bumpers, two passive bumpers, two slingshots, eleven rollover buttons, a rotating target, and a pair of gobble holes. The Red and Yellow advances add a layer of strategy, raising the corresponding gobble hole values from 50 points up through 100, 200, and 300 points to Special, so players must manage their progress to maximize the value of each hole. The maximum displayed score is 1,999 points, and the game's sounds are simple but effective: two bells and a knocker.

The cabinet features a distinctive reverse wedge head, and the replay wheel counts up to 47. As a single-player Kordek design from Williams' early-1960s catalog, 4 Roses offers a glimpse into the gobble-hole era of EM pinball and remains an appealing piece for collectors of the period.
