About This Machine

Foto Finish, designed by Wayne Neyens with artwork by Roy Parker, was manufactured by Gottlieb in January 1961, with a confirmed production run of 1,000 units. This single-player electro-mechanical game carries a horse racing theme, revisiting a title Gottlieb had first used back in 1937.

The playfield offers two flippers, two pop bumpers, seven passive bumpers, two slingshots, two standup targets, a rollunder, and a gobble hole. The "Score To Beat" window on the backglass is a distinctive touch: it allows the operator to place a card behind the glass showing a suggested high score visible to the player, adding a competitive target to every game.

Operators could configure the game's carry-over feature for one or two replays, and the special awarded by the lit gobble hole could be set for one, two, or three replays. With a maximum displayed point score of 1,999 points, Foto Finish is a solid example of Gottlieb's single-player wedgehead-era design, pairing Neyens' layout instincts with Parker's classic artwork.
