About This Machine

Lightning (New Style) is a single-player pin game produced by the Exhibit Supply Company in June 1934. Exhibit Supply was a long-established Chicago amusement manufacturer, and by 1934 the company was an active participant in the pin-game boom that swept America during the Great Depression, when inexpensive coin-operated ball games spread rapidly through drugstores, taverns, and lunch counters.

Like other games of its era, Lightning predates the invention of the flipper (which did not appear until 1947). Play centered on launching a ball with a spring plunger across an inclined, nail-studded playfield, with scoring determined by the holes or pockets the ball came to rest in. Machines of this period had no electronic scoring displays and relied on purely mechanical or early electro-mechanical mechanisms.

The machine is documented in the Pinside database and is not yet catalogued on the Internet Pinball Database, so detailed production and design records are limited.
