Jack 'n Jill
About This Machine
Jack 'n Jill is a single-player woodrail pinball machine released by D. Gottlieb & Co. in April 1948, with about 2,000 units produced. It appeared at the dawn of the flipper era, just months after Gottlieb's Humpty Dumpty (1947) introduced the flipper to pinball. Following that pioneering design, Jack 'n Jill was fitted with six flippers arranged along the playfield, actuated in the era's characteristic style by long slide bars beneath the playfield that fired each side's flippers together.
The game takes its theme from the classic nursery rhyme, with backglass artwork by Roy Parker showing an animated Jack and Jill climbing the hill and tumbling back down. A charming early example of Gottlieb's flipper-era output, it remains a sought-after machine among collectors of postwar woodrails.
