About This Machine
Shanty Town is a single-player electro-mechanical pinball machine produced by the Exhibit Supply Company of Chicago in October 1949. It arrived during the first wave of flipper pinball; Exhibit had introduced flippers to its lineup with Build Up in 1948, and Shanty Town was among the flipper-equipped games the company released as the new control scheme swept the industry.
Scoring and play were tracked on an illuminated backglass, standard for late-1940s woodrail machines. Exhibit Supply was one of the older names in the trade, and games from this transitional moment are of particular interest to collectors of early flipper pinball.
