About This Machine

Motorhead is a home-brew electro-mechanical (EM) pinball machine built in November 2019, of which a single unit was produced. Unusually for a modern build, it uses classic EM technology with mechanical reel scoring rather than digital displays or solid-state electronics.

The two-player game is a flipperless design, relying on the ball's interaction with the playfield and its bumpers rather than player-controlled flippers, in keeping with the earliest styles of pinball. Its use of mechanical reels for scoring gives it the look and sound of a vintage machine.

As a one-off home-brew project, Motorhead reflects the hobbyist side of pinball, where builders create custom, personal machines outside the commercial industry.
