About This Machine

Deep Blue Rage is a one-off home-brew pinball machine completed in January 2021 by Austrian builder Stefan Mader. Built into an altered cabinet from an old Williams Smart Set, the two-player solid-state game runs on a Multimorphic P3-ROC controller with software written in the open-source Mission Pinball Framework, and features three flippers, four ramps, and an LCD display.

The game pits a diver — the player — against a giant octopus called Lord Rage. There are five bosses to defeat, activated in random order, with Lord Rage always saved for last: hitting all the lit targets lights 'attack', after which the player finishes the boss at the drop target or the scoop beneath the small octopus head. Balls can be locked at one of the ramps to build toward a four-ball multiball, all set to a classic-rock soundtrack that includes Dio's 'Holy Diver'.

Only one unit exists, but the game has earned real recognition in the homebrew community, winning the best homebrew award at the Austrian Pinball Festival.
