This is Spinal Tap Pinball

This is Spinal Tap Pinball is Homepin's September 2022 machine based on the cult-classic 1984 mockumentary about the world's loudest band. After months of development and teaser images, the Taiwan-based manufacturer debuted the game at the Pinfest show in Newcastle, Australia, with an MSRP of $9,000.

The presentation leans hard into the rock theme: the backbox houses a large 27-inch LCD panel styled as a Marshall amplifier, which plays clips from the film, while scoring and game information appear on a traditional LED dot-matrix display flanked by illuminated speaker grilles. An optional interactive topper features an animated jaw and illuminated eyes.

Under the hood, the four-player solid-state game uses opto switches for ball sensing and magnetic Hall-effect sensors on its spinners, giving them smoother, lower-friction spins than conventional switch-actuated designs. It stands as one of the more unusual music-comedy licenses ever brought to the pinball market.
