DragonballZ

DragonballZ is a one-of-a-kind homebrew pinball machine built by Matt Malone and completed in November 2022. Themed around the hugely popular Dragon Ball Z anime and manga franchise, it is notable for being built as an electromechanical (EM) game — a rarity among modern homebrew projects, which typically use solid-state electronics.

The single-player machine features a three-flipper layout without ramps, in keeping with its old-school electromechanical construction. Only one unit was produced, and the game was never offered commercially.

Documented through the Pinside homebrew community, DragonballZ exemplifies the hobbyist end of pinball building, where a single enthusiast can hand-craft a fully playable machine around a theme the commercial industry has never licensed — and in this case, do it with vintage-style EM technology.
