Pulp Fiction (SE)

Pulp Fiction (Special Edition) is the standard version of Chicago Gaming Company's 2023 Pulp Fiction pinball machine, released in March 2023 at an MSRP of $7,999. The game was developed at the request of Quentin Tarantino, who wanted an 1980s-style pinball machine based on his film, and legendary designer Mark Ritchie delivered a playfield that appears comparable to games of that era while offering more mechanisms and greater rule depth than most modern releases.

The retro presentation runs deep: scoring is shown on alphanumeric LED displays rather than an LCD, and the two-flipper layout has no ramps, relying instead on classic shot-making. The rules, though, are contemporary, with multiple multiball modes, three mini-wizard modes, and a full wizard mode called Divine Intervention. The audio package includes a large library of quotes from the film's cast and five licensed songs from the original soundtrack, among them Misirlou and Jungle Boogie.

The Special Edition offers the same gameplay as the Bad Mother Flipper Limited Edition at a lower price, forgoing that version's numbered plaque, Jack Rabbit Slim's topper, mirror blades, shaker motor, and powder-coated armor. It represented Chicago Gaming Company's first original title after years of well-regarded remakes of classic Bally/Williams games.
