Barry O's BBQ Challenge (Classic)

Barry O's BBQ Challenge (Classic) is a 2024 release from American Pinball created as a heartfelt tribute to legendary pinball designer Barry Oursler, the man behind classics like Gorgar, Space Shuttle and Pin-Bot. Oursler had joined American Pinball shortly before his death in February 2022, and this game grew out of the playfield design he had begun developing there, themed around his real-life love of barbecue and the outdoors.

The game deliberately evokes the feel of a 1980s design: a four-player solid state machine with two flippers and two outer ramp shots, favoring fast, straightforward shooting over toy-laden complexity. Players work their way through a backyard cookout challenge, with the ruleset serving up grilling-themed modes and a ball lock feature.

Released in March 2024 at an MSRP of $6,995, the Classic edition is the standard, non-limited version of the game, sold alongside a 100-unit Limited Edition with upgraded trim. Beyond its approachable gameplay, the title stands as American Pinball's affectionate farewell to one of the most prolific designers in the history of the hobby.
