About This Machine

Firepower II, designed by Mark Ritchie and released by Williams Electronics in August 1983, is the solid-state sequel to Steve Ritchie's landmark 1980 hit Firepower. Running on the Williams System 7 platform with software by Dave Rzepka, this 4-player outer space-themed game had a confirmed production run of 3,400 units. In an interesting bit of manufacturing trivia, the game used excess backboxes left over from the production run of Williams' 1981 Hyperball.

Gameplay is fast-paced, with two flippers, four pop bumpers, two slingshots, ten standup targets, a kick-out hole, and a rollunder spinner feeding a variety of shots. A ramp and a 2-ball multiball mode round out the feature set, giving players multiple objectives to chase across the playfield.

The design and art continue the sci-fi look of the original, with artwork by Constantino and Jeanine Mitchell, the same artists who illustrated the first Firepower. As a follow-up to one of the most successful solid-state games of its era, Firepower II offers collectors and players an interesting look at how Williams evolved a proven title for the System 7 generation.
