About This Machine

Fairy, released by Playmatic of Barcelona in September 1975, is a single-player electro-mechanical game with a fantasy theme from one of Spain's longest-running pinball manufacturers, active from 1968 to 1987. Its playfield layout is a near-copy of Bally's two-player 1975 'Flicker' and four-player 1974 'Boomerang', and Playmatic issued its own four-player version the following year as 1976's 'Fantasy'.

The wedge-head game packs plenty into its playfield: two flippers, a pop bumper, two slingshots, seven standup targets, six rollover buttons, a spinning target, a kick-out hole, a captive ball, and an action ring. It offers 3 or 5 ball play with a maximum displayed score of 999,990 points, and sound comes from three bells and a knocker.

Even the backglass has a borrowed flavor: the man and woman depicted look similar to the couple on Gottlieb's 1975 'Atlantis'. Fairy is a characteristic example of the mid-1970s Spanish EM scene, where manufacturers freely adapted popular American layouts for the European market.
