Fairway
About This Machine
Fairway, released by Williams in June 1953, is a single-player electro-mechanical game designed by pinball pioneer Harry Williams himself, with artwork by George Molentin. Its golfing theme fit squarely into the sports subjects that dominated pinball backglasses in the early 1950s.
The playfield offers two flippers, two pop bumpers, four passive bumpers, five kick-out holes, and four trap holes - a hole-heavy layout that suits the golf theme nicely. The manufacturer's original playfield drawing survives undated and unsigned, though scrawled notes record post changes made in March and April of 1953, a small glimpse into the iterative tuning that went into games of this era.
As a Harry Williams design from his own company's golden EM period, Fairway is a solid representative of early-1950s Williams woodrail pinball.
