Fair Lady
About This Machine
Fair Lady, released by Gottlieb in November 1956, is a two-player electro-mechanical game designed by Wayne Neyens with artwork by Roy Parker - the classic Gottlieb creative team of the era. With a confirmed production of 550 units, it shares its playfield layout with Gottlieb's 1956 'Sea Belles'.
The playfield features two flippers, four pop bumpers, four passive bumpers, two slingshots, two gobble holes, and three standup targets. A double match feature awards 2 or 10 replays, operator adjustable, adding a bit of end-of-game suspense.
The show business theme comes through in Roy Parker's backglass, which depicts Janus theater masks and carries Gottlieb's famous slogan: 'Amusement Pinballs, as American as Baseball and Hot Dogs!' The title anticipated the era's theatrical zeitgeist - George Bernard Shaw's 'Pygmalion' opened on Broadway as 'My Fair Lady' in 1956, a success Gottlieb would revisit a decade later with its 1966 'Mayfair'.
