Electro Black Diamond
About This Machine
The Electro Black Diamond, produced by the Electro Black Diamond Double Pin Table Company of Corpus Christi, Texas, is one of the earliest examples of a commercial pinball machine, dating back to 1933. As such, it holds significant importance in the history of pinball, marking a pivotal moment in the evolution of the game from its humble beginnings as a carnival attraction to a mainstream entertainment phenomenon. Its electro-mechanical design, featuring twin playfields and mechanical animation, sets it apart from earlier, more primitive versions.
Gameplay on the Electro Black Diamond is characterized by shooting marbles at targets while dogs race around a circular track using an electric motor, adding a thrilling visual element to the experience. The machine's unique feature of having two separate playfields side by side allows players to engage in simultaneous gameplay, creating a dynamic and competitive atmosphere. With 5-cent plays available, this machine was accessible to a broad audience during its time.
The Electro Black Diamond's design is notable for its use of nickel-plated outside hardware and the attention-grabbing theme of dog racing, which would have been familiar to many players in the 1930s. Unfortunately, little information is known about the designer or any interesting trivia surrounding this machine. Nevertheless, its place in pinball history as an early example of a commercial EM game makes it a fascinating artifact for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
