About This Machine

El Toro is a fascinating addition to any serious pinball collection. Produced by Williams in August 1963 with a confirmed run of 1,850 units, this two-player electro-mechanical (EM) machine takes on the dramatic spectacle of bullfighting. It was designed by Steve Kordek, one of pinball's most influential designers, with artwork by the prolific George Molentin.

The gameplay features a mix of classic EM elements, including two flippers, four pop bumpers, two slingshots, three standup targets, two drop targets, and two rollover buttons. A rotating drum in the playfield indicates the current target value, adding an extra layer of strategy to the game. The double match award can be set by the operator to pay 2, 5, or 10 replays, and the maximum displayed point score is 1,999 points per player, with the replay wheel counting up to 47. The tilt penalty is severe: game over for the offending player.

El Toro's bullfighting artwork by George Molentin brings the color and drama of the corrida to the backglass and playfield, making this Kordek design an evocative snapshot of Williams' early-1960s output.
