Dyn O' Mite
About This Machine
The Dyn O, released by Allied Leisure Industries of Hialeah, Florida in November 1975, is an early solid-state electronic pinball machine, arriving before the major manufacturers made the leap from electromechanical technology. Allied Leisure was among the pioneers of solid-state pinball, and Dyn O captures that transitional moment in the industry's history.
Gameplay-wise, Dyn O offers a variety of engaging features. Players use two flippers to control the ball, while a pop bumper, two slingshots, and eight standup targets provide multiple scoring opportunities, complemented by four solitary drop targets. The game includes left and right outlane detour gates, and its special can be set by the operator to award either a replay or add-a-ball. Despite its solid-state electronics, the sound package is old-school: three chimes and a knocker.
The game was designed by Jack Pearson with art by Roland Berrios, and its licensed music/dancing theme has a distinctly 1970s hook: the playfield art features a likeness of American television actor Jimmie Walker delivering his famous catchphrase 'Dyn-o-mite!'. Collectors may also note that the 4-player version of this game is Allied Leisure's 1975 'Rock On', which was re-released as 'T.N.T.' and again as 'Boogie' in 1976.
