Andromeda
About This Machine
The Andromeda is a rare and intriguing solid-state electronic pinball machine from September 1985, designed by Ed Cebula and Mike Kubin, with artwork by Paul Faris and software by Rehman Merchant. Produced in a confirmed run of just 500 units at the very end of Game Plan's active years (1978-1985), this four-player game running on the Game Plan MPU-2 board represents one of the company's final contributions to the industry. Although it may not be a household name among pinball enthusiasts, the Andromeda holds value as a testament to Game Plan's output during the 1980s.
The gameplay on the Andromeda is built around a fantasy theme centered on women. Players interact with various targets, including four stand-up targets, one six-bank of drop targets, a solitary drop target, and a spinning target. The machine's two flippers and four pop bumpers are standard for the era, complemented by an emphasis on shooting targets to score points, making it a straightforward, challenging game focused on achieving high scores.
As a piece of trivia, the whitewood prototype of this game survives as a functioning game. For collectors and enthusiasts interested in 1980s solid-state pinball machines, the Andromeda's small production run and status as one of Game Plan's last titles make it an interesting find.
