About This Machine

Double Treasure, manufactured by the Daval Manufacturing Company of Chicago in February 1939, is a single-player electro-mechanical machine from the final year of the company's existence. Daval, active from 1934 to 1939, was best known in the trade for its counter games, and Double Treasure arrived near the end of its run.

Almost nothing is documented about the machine itself: the Internet Pinball Database records no designer, features, theme, or artwork for it. As a 1939 game it predates the flipper by nearly a decade, so play would have revolved around launching the ball and letting the playfield's features determine its fate, in the style typical of pre-war pinball.

With so little surviving documentation, Double Treasure is chiefly of interest as an artifact of a smaller Chicago manufacturer winding down at the close of the 1930s, a reminder of how many companies came and went during the coin machine industry's turbulent first decade.
