Double Score
About This Machine
Double Score, manufactured by J. H. Keeney and Company Incorporated of Chicago in March 1936, is a single-player electro-mechanical pinball machine from the busy mid-1930s coin-op boom. Keeney was one of the many Chicago firms competing in the crowded amusement machine market of the era, and Double Score was one of its pre-war offerings.
As a 1936 game, Double Score predates the invention of the flipper by more than a decade; like all machines of its day, play would have centered on launching the ball and watching it find its way through the playfield's scoring features. Unfortunately, no details of its layout, rules, artwork, or designer have been documented.
With so little recorded about it, Double Score survives mainly as a name in the historical record, a reminder of just how many games poured out of Chicago's coin machine factories in the mid-1930s, most of them destined for short lives on location and quick replacement by the next new title.
