About This Machine

Double Header is an electro-mechanical bingo machine from Bally Manufacturing Corporation, designed by Don Hooker and carrying model number 582. Bingo machines are flipperless games in which players shoot balls onto a playfield of numbered trap holes, hoping to complete lines on a bingo-style card displayed on the backglass, and Double Header offered five balls for five cents.

What sets Double Header apart is its dual-game design. Two separate game cards are displayed, each with different features and payouts, and the player can play either game or both simultaneously. Game 1 uses a card with fixed numbers, while Game 2 features Magic Squares: if the Magic Square features (A and B, C, or D) are purchased during play, the player can press buttons to rearrange numbers on the card, improving the odds of lining up a win. The playfield contains twenty-five trap holes.

The machine carries a baseball/softball theme, tying its "double header" name to America's pastime. Its exact production year is not recorded in the IPDB listing, but as one of Don Hooker's designs for Bally, it belongs to the company's long and commercially important line of bingo machines.
