About This Machine

Long Shot is a Pure Mechanical (PM) counter/tabletop game from an unknown manufacturer, single-player, with its origins and history largely undocumented. It is known from photographs showing a yellow pins-and-pockets playfield, with the name LONG SHOT printed at the top of the playfield, curved to follow the upper arch.

Gameplay centers on ten trap holes and a single free play hole. Pockets score between 100 and 700 points, and one pocket is labeled HALVES SCORE. In the center of the playfield is a pocket, not surrounded by pins, labeled "Long Shot," which doubles the score if achieved. Shooting a ball forcefully into play can send it traveling almost completely around the perimeter of the playfield toward this central "Long Shot" hole, giving the game its name.

With its unknown origins, Long Shot remains a curiosity of early mechanical pinball, its scoring layout and named target hole reflecting a simple but distinctive design for its category of tabletop/counter games.
