Treble Chance

Treble Chance, manufactured by Bally in 1963 (model 717), is a soccer-themed gambling upright rather than a pinball machine — what collectors call a "flasher type" slot machine. It taps into the popularity of football/soccer in early-1960s Britain and Europe, where such devices were common in clubs and pubs.

The cabinet features three Hold buttons and a Cancel button, letting players lock in selected outcomes before the round resolves — mechanics typical of British payout games of the period rather than traditional pinball flipper play. Period trade press (The Billboard, Jan-26-1963) reported the game was to debut at the 1963 Amusement Trades Exhibition in London, indicating it was aimed squarely at the UK market.

Beyond its specifications and debut, little else is documented about Treble Chance. It stands as a representative example of the electro-mechanical payout uprights Bally produced for the European trade during the 1960s.
