Super Blue Spot
About This Machine
The Super Blue Spot is a rare and little-documented device from J. H. Keeney and Company Incorporated of Chicago, one of the major coin-op manufacturers of the mid-20th century. Despite pinball-style construction, this is not a pinball machine but a gambling device — an "electronic upright," also known as a "flasher type" slot machine.
No production date has been confirmed for the Super Blue Spot, and little information about it survives. What is known comes from a 1966 trade reference (The Cash Box, Jan-29-1966) noting that Keeney's 'Mountain Climber' was its successor, implying the Super Blue Spot predates that game. Like other Keeney uprights of the period, it featured a Panascope display, though the exact workings of that display are not documented.
With so few records surviving, the Super Blue Spot remains largely a mystery, known today mainly through its place in Keeney's lineage of payout uprights rather than through direct documentation of its own design or gameplay.
