Pony Derby
About This Machine
Pony Derby is an electro-mechanical 'upright' payout device — a 'flasher type' slot machine, not a pinball machine — manufactured by J. H. Keeney and Company of Chicago in 1964, for export to the UK where such payout devices were legal.
Its most distinctive feature is a three-dimensional metal profile of a horse's head mounted on the cabinet front, fitting its horse-racing theme. According to a pre-show item in The Cash Box (February 1, 1964), Pony Derby was billed as a 'new item' expected at Mar-Matic Sales Ltd.'s booth at the 1964 Amusement Trades Exhibition in London; Mar-Matic was Keeney's exclusive UK importer.
Beyond these details, little further documentation of Pony Derby survives, leaving its full feature set and broader history largely undocumented.
