About This Machine
Blue Spot is an electro-mechanical 'upright' payout device — also called a 'flasher type' slot machine — manufactured by J. H. Keeney and Company of Chicago in June 1963. It is not a pinball machine.
Keeney built upright payout games primarily for export, since coin-payout uprights were not legal in the United States. Blue Spot's notable feature is its inclusion of Keeney's 'Panascope' mechanism, though the specifics of how it functioned are not documented.
The earliest known reference to Blue Spot is a June 29, 1963 advertisement in The Cash Box placed by Mar-Matic Sales Ltd. of London, Keeney's exclusive UK importer, promoting the game as 'new.' Beyond this, little further documentation of the machine survives.
