Grand Slam
About This Machine
Grand Slam is an electro-mechanical, single-player, add-a-ball pinball machine with a baseball theme, from an unknown manufacturer. It is a conversion of Gottlieb's 1966 'Ice Show (Italy),' and its backglass and playfield were reportedly silkscreened by LORI, suggesting the art may be the work of Lorenzo Rimondini.
Gameplay features two flippers, five pop bumpers, two slingshots, and seven standup targets. On the example playfield examined, a row of pins blocks access to the kickback feature through the cardholder's teardrop cutout -- possibly an operator modification made for local restrictions, or simply a reused part from another game that may never have had a kickback feature at all.
Because its exact production date is unknown, much about Grand Slam's history remains a mystery. Even so, as a documented conversion of an established Gottlieb title, it offers collectors an interesting case study in how EM-era operators repurposed existing games with new baseball-themed dress.
