About This Machine

Flash Back, manufactured by J. H. Keeney and Company Incorporated and announced in April 1961, is not a pinball machine but a single-player "electronic upright," or "flasher type" device. As with similar Keeney machines, it does not pay out cash — a credit meter increments instead to allow continued play.

The machine uses a Panascope display, similar to that seen on other Keeney uprights of the period, and lets players select between "Regular" or "Double or Nothing" scoring, adding a risk-versus-reward choice to each play. Flash Back carries a Fantasy theme, and its cabinet was advertised at 58 inches high, 30 inches wide, and 16 inches deep, weighing 156 pounds.

Little else is documented about Flash Back's designer or specific artwork, but its selectable scoring option and Fantasy theme distinguish it from Keeney's other Panascope-equipped uprights of the same era.
