About This Machine

The Trail Blazer, manufactured by Games, Incorporated of Chicago and released around early November 1960, is not a pinball machine but a single-player "electronic upright," or "flasher type" device. As with other machines of its type, it does not pay out cash — a credit meter increments instead to allow continued play.

One of the standout features of the Trail Blazer is its new "Magic Viewer," advertised as providing "Depth Perception of the lightglass" — an early attempt to add visual depth to the scoring display. The cabinet was advertised at a relatively compact 53 inches high, 24 inches wide, and 16 inches deep.

While details about the machine's theme or specific scoring rules are scarce, the Trail Blazer's Magic Viewer feature carried over into its two-player successor, Twin Trail Blazer, released a few months later.
