Jumbo (handle console model)
About This Machine
The 1959 Jumbo, manufactured by Bally Manufacturing Corporation and released as Model 626, is not a pinball machine but an "electronic upright," also known as a "flasher type" device. It does not pay out cash — a credit meter increments instead, letting play continue without more coins.
Bally offered the game in two versions: this handle console model, with a lever-arm and ratchet action, and a companion button console model (626-B) with a jumbo-size polished push-button. Both shared the same schematic and could be set by operators for nickel, dime, or quarter play. The cabinet was advertised at 57 inches high, 28 inches wide, and 17 1/2 inches deep, and the game carried a Circus/Carnival theme. Bally announced both versions as shipping to distributors in Cash Box on May 9, 1959.
The Jumbo was followed by related Bally models, including the 1959 Jumbo (button console model) and the 1960 Jumbo '60, placing it within a small family of Bally's circus-themed upright amusement devices from the era.
