About This Machine

The Silver King Twins, manufactured by the Texas Novelty Company of Beaumont, Texas in July 1932, is a two-player Pure Mechanical pinball machine designed by Charles A. Toce and Glenn D. Fleak. According to the Encyclopedia of Pinball, Texas operator Edmund C. Clem produced this game through his Texas Novelty Company before shifting production to his Standard Amusement Company as demand grew.

As a Pure Mechanical game, its two players competed on side-by-side playfields using purely mechanical means -- plungers, pins, and gravity -- to move the ball, since flippers would not be invented until 1947. This dual-playfield, head-to-head format was a notable design choice for the era, letting two people play competitively at once.

Little survives about the machine's specific artwork or theme. Still, as an early product from a lesser-known Texas manufacturer that would soon evolve into Standard Amusement Co., The Silver King Twins is a useful artifact for understanding pinball's rapid regional spread in its formative years.
