About This Machine

The Silver King Twins Junior, manufactured by Standard Amusement Co., Inc. of Beaumont, Texas in February 1933, is a pure mechanical pinball machine designed by Charles A. Toce and Glenn D. Fleak. It is the smaller version of the company's larger 'Silver King Twins,' itself derived from the original single-playfield 'Silver King.'

The Silver King Twins Junior features two playfields side by side that are played simultaneously, letting two players compete head-to-head on adjacent games. It offered affordable play at two games for one cent or five cents, and its compact cabinet -- advertised at 28 1/2 inches long, 24 inches wide, and 36 1/2 inches high on its legs -- made it accessible for a wide range of locations.

Little is documented about the machine's artwork or theme, but its dual-playfield design is characteristic of the experimentation happening in the pure mechanical era of pinball, before electro-mechanical components or flippers (which did not appear until 1947) existed. As part of the Silver King family of games from Standard Amusement, it offers a window into the earliest commercial pinball designs of the early 1930s.
