About This Machine

The O. D. Jennings and Company's Sportsman (1935) is an electro-mechanical (EM) payout machine with a hunting theme, manufactured in May 1935. It can be identified by the red-colored five-sided polygon at the top center of the lower apron and its round legs attached to the cabinet sides. A manufacturer's flyer references a corresponding non-payout version.

Gameplay offers 10 balls for five cents, typical of Depression-era payout machines. As with most machines of this type and period, the mechanics were straightforward, with players shooting balls into scoring holes and targets to earn payouts.

Little specific information survives about the machine's designer or the details of its artwork and construction. As one of several hunting-themed Sportsman variants produced by Jennings in 1935, it remains a piece of the broader story of Depression-era payout pinball.
