Daily Double (De Luxe)
About This Machine
The Daily Double (De Luxe) is a rare pinball machine from December 1935, manufactured by Daval Manufacturing Co. of Chicago as the "Senior" version of their earlier Daily Double (Standard). As an electromechanical (EM) one-ball payout machine, it reflects the horse-racing-themed gambling games common in the mid-1930s.
Gameplay centers on 15 trap holes - one Daily Double hole, two Win holes, four Place holes, seven Show holes, and one Also Ran hole (the outhole) - along with three captive balls. Players aimed to land balls in the higher-value holes to win payouts, mirroring the mechanics of horse-race betting.
The cabinet measures 45 inches long and 23 inches wide including trim, and a check separator was available for $5 extra. While little is documented about the machine's designer or artwork, its horse-racing theme and payout mechanism place it firmly within the wave of one-ball gambling pinball machines of its era.
