About This Machine

Big Hunt, manufactured by AMI s.p.a. of Italy in 1976, is an electro-mechanical (EM) pinball machine themed around the American West, produced during AMI's brief 1975-1977 run. Its backglass, credited to artist Michele "Mike" Martinelli, is a copy of the artwork from Bally's 1975 'Bow and Arrow.'

At play, Big Hunt's gameplay is marked by an engaging layout that includes two flippers, three pop bumpers, and six standup targets. The addition of a 4-bank of drop targets, a spinning target, and a diverter adds to the excitement, while a kicker lane and dual inlanes on the right side provide extra challenge. One of the machine's most intriguing features is the ball diverter in the upper right playfield, which uses spring tension rather than electricity: it routes balls from the spinning target down to the kicker below, while balls coming from the kicker are diverted toward the pop bumpers.

The backglass features three feathers that light up individually to indicate up to three extra balls, and sound is provided by three chimes and a knocker. The game could be configured by operators as either an add-a-ball or a standard 5-ball novelty game, with a maximum displayed score of 19,999,900 points. A replay version of the same game was also released by AMI in 1976.
