About This Machine

This enigmatic electro-mechanical pinball machine, known only as "Automatic," survives today solely through photographs of its mirrored backglass — its manufacturer and year of production remain unknown. It is a horse-racing themed, single-player game, part of the historically distinct category of horserace pinball machines.

The backglass carries the words "Daily" and "Double" in small text, suggesting the game may have been informally referred to as "Automatic Daily Double." Its layout — an odds matrix in the center of the backglass with numbers 1 through 7 along the bottom, and pennants (rather than trophies) in the upper corners — closely resembles Victory Sales' 1946 'Double Feature,' itself a converted horserace game, hinting at a possible relationship between the two.

Beyond the backglass, no information survives about Automatic's gameplay mechanics, features, or whether it was a one-ball payout machine. It remains one of the more mysterious entries in pinball history, known only through a handful of images.
