About This Machine

The American Beauty (Senior) pinball machine, manufactured by Gee Bee Manufacturing Company of Chicago and released at the February 1934 Chicago Exposition, is a notable artifact from the early days of pinball history. Designed by Ralph Fletcher, this electro-mechanical (EM) machine was produced after Gee Bee moved to a larger facility at 14-16 North May Street specifically to build it.

Shortly after this game's debut, on March 6, 1934, the Gee-Bee Manufacturing Company changed its name to G.B. Daval Company as an intermediate step in transitioning manufacturing and rights to the Daval Manufacturing Company. The game itself continued production under that successor company as the 1934 'American Beauty Senior De Luxe.'

The cabinet was advertised at 41 inches long by 19 inches wide. Beyond these production and business details, specific information about American Beauty (Senior)'s gameplay rules and artwork is not well documented, but its role at the start of the American Beauty lineage - and the corporate transition it coincided with - makes it a notable piece of early 1930s pinball history.
