About This Machine

Rocket III (Italy) is the add-a-ball version of Bally's 1967 replay game 'Rocket III,' made specifically for the Italian market. Designed by Ted Zale with artwork by Christian Marche, this electro-mechanical machine channels the outer-space theme popular in 1960s pinball.

Unlike the standard replay version, this Italian add-a-ball model has no add-a-ball relay or jack, and its backglass - identical in silkscreening to the replay version - omits the replay window. In place of the Replay Unit, the backbox houses an Added Ball Unit that can indicate up to nine added balls using what would be the 1-to-9 match numbers on the replay version. The zipper flippers, a pair of mechanical flipper-style devices positioned to guard the outlanes, are the game's standout feature, adding an extra layer of ball-saving strategy to play.

As a regional variant built for the Italian market and distinct from the more common domestic replay edition, Rocket III (Italy) is a notable piece for collectors focused on Bally's international releases of the era.
