Rallye
About This Machine
The Rallye pinball machine, manufactured by Magister of Arras, France, is a rare example of pure mechanical (PM) pin table design with an auto racing theme. Its exact production year is unknown, though the art deco styling on its cabinet and legs is reportedly typical of French games from the 1930s.
One of the most striking aspects of this machine is its shooter lane, which allows the ball to loop 360 degrees around the playfield before entering play via a graduated skill shot on the right side. The playfield includes 25 trap holes and a free play hole marked "A REJOUER" (play again), and depicts four automobiles from the 1920s or '30s.
Little information is available on Rallye's designer or full production history, though a surviving example bears a metal plaque with the manufacturer's name and address. As a well-preserved example of French pin table craftsmanship from the era, it offers a glimpse into the auto-racing themes and mechanical ingenuity that defined pre-flipper pinball design.
