"ZANZI-BIL"
About This Machine
"Zanzi-Bil" is a rare and little-documented pure mechanical pin table from an unknown manufacturer, believed to date to circa the 1930s. The name appears in quotation marks at the top of the playfield, in the curve of the ball arch, and the surviving example uses French-language text and a French instruction card, suggesting French origin or distribution.
The gameplay of "Zanzi-Bil" is built around a pins-and-pockets style playfield, featuring 16 trap holes and 4 free play holes typical of pin tables from its era. This design put an emphasis on precision ball placement rather than the flipper-based skill of later pinball machines, which had not yet been invented.
As one of many anonymous pin tables from the early mechanical era, "Zanzi-Bil" offers collectors and historians a glimpse into pre-flipper pinball design. Little is known about its designer or manufacturer, but its survival helps illustrate the variety of pin tables produced in France during the 1930s.
