Corsair
About This Machine
The Corsair is a rare electro-mechanical pinball machine known to us only from its backbox. It is actually a conversion of Gottlieb's 1957 'Flag-Ship,' repurposed with new nautical-themed artwork and branding -- a common practice used to extend the life of existing hardware. Its converting manufacturer is unknown.
Playability-wise, the Corsair supports two players, with a maximum displayed score of 1,999 points per player. As an EM conversion built on Gottlieb's Flag-Ship platform, its underlying mechanics and electrical systems would have matched that machine's late-1950s design.
The Corsair's nautical theme of boats and sailing gives it a distinct look compared to its Flag-Ship original, even though the gameplay hardware beneath the new art remains largely the same. With only the backbox documented, much about this conversion -- including who produced it and when -- remains unknown, making it a curiosity for those interested in the conversion side of pinball history.
