Aces
About This Machine
Aces, designed by John Trudeau, represents an unrealized project from Midway's run as a leading pinball manufacturer. The game was never produced: what survives is an undated CAD playfield drawing for Project/Model Number 50040, roughly 30 by 60 inches, found in the archive files of the Williams/Bally engineering department. Other Williams documentation places this project between Midway's 1995 'Theatre of Magic' and Midway's 1995 'Attack from Mars'.
Because Aces never reached production, little is known about its intended playfield mechanics, theme, or art. Trudeau, a designer credited on games including The Machine: Bride of Pin*Bot, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Black Rose, Judge Dredd, and Congo, is listed as the designer on the surviving drawing, but no further details of his vision for this title have surfaced.
While there is little information available on the machine's design, art, or theme, its presence in pinball history serves as a reminder of the numerous prototypes and canceled projects that never made it out of Midway's engineering department. With many questions still surrounding Aces, enthusiasts are left to wonder what secrets this unproduced game holds.
