About This Machine

Scout is a rare and mysterious electro-mechanical pinball item known only from a surviving backglass. It appears to be a conversion kit — quite common in Italy — believed to have been made around 1970-1972 to convert Gottlieb's 1967 games 'Harmony' and 'Troubadour' into a new lunar exploration theme. According to an Italian collector, the manufacturer is known simply by the initials "RG," about whom little else is documented.

The backglass art depicts a spaceman and two spacewomen on the lunar surface watching a video transmission from Earth on a tripod-mounted screen, with their rocket and a small spaceship nearby, Earth visible in the sky above, and another spaceship en route to join them. The glass carries the Italian phrase "Senza Ripetizione Della Partita" and uses five-digit EM scoring.

Because Scout survives only as a backglass, its specific gameplay and features are largely unknown, but its striking Space Age artwork and its place as an Italian conversion of two well-known Gottlieb titles make it a fascinating curiosity for collectors interested in the conversion-kit side of pinball history.
