New Crazy 15
About This Machine
The New Crazy 15, manufactured in 1977 by Komaya Co., Ltd. (Komaya Seisakusho) of Kobe, Japan, is an electro-mechanical pinball machine and an improved successor to the company's 1965 title Crazy 15. According to a January 1978 trade magazine announcement, the new version added sound effects, a motor-driven ball loader, and improved flippers over the original.
Gameplay centers on nine numbered trap holes scattered across the playfield; landing a ball in one lights the corresponding number on the backglass, and lighting three numbers in a row -- horizontally, vertically, or diagonally -- awards the player a replay. The machine has two flippers and a coin slot built into the lockdown bar.
Carrying the theme "Happiness," New Crazy 15 reflects the lighter, more whimsical subject matter common in Japanese EM pinball of the era, distinct from the sports and adventure themes more typical of American machines from the same period.
