Let's Go Moon!
About This Machine
'Let' (レッツゴームーン) is a rare electro-mechanical pinball machine from Komaya Co., Ltd. of Kobe, Japan, a manufacturer founded in 1965. Its exact release date is unknown, but it offers a window into Komaya's early lunar-exploration-themed output.
The game features two flippers and has no pop bumpers, and its coin slot is built into the lockdown bar. Its standout feature is a mechanical backbox animation in which a spacewalking astronaut orbits a space station: shooting the ball and rolling it around the playfield advances the astronaut's orbit, and after ten laps the astronaut reaches the moon, winning a replay. Hitting a target advances the astronaut one-sixth of a lap, while draining the ball through the 'out' lane sends the astronaut back toward Earth.
The lunar exploration theme, brought to life through this orbiting-astronaut animation, gives 'Let' a distinctive identity among EM machines of its era. Little is known about its designer or the specifics of its release, but it stands as a notable example of Komaya's inventive approach to backbox animation in Japanese pinball.
