About This Machine

The Alien pinball machine, designed by Dave Sanders and manufactured by Pinball Brothers AB of Örebro, Sweden in 2021, is a widebody licensed game based on the Alien film franchise. It is an updated version of Heighway Pinball, Ltd.'s 2017 'ALIEN (Standard Edition)', carried forward after Pinball Brothers took over the design.

Key features of the Alien include its four flippers, three pop bumpers with color-changing lamps, two slingshots, spinning targets, and magnets, all combining for an immersive gameplay experience. A ball-locking mechanism in the upper left playfield can lock up to three balls for multiball, while optical sensors in the left outlanes award an extra ball when the "Revive" inserts are lit. The machine also has a voice feature, with an operator-selected Family Mode option available to remove profanity.

The Alien's design and art are notable: its backglass is back-printed acrylic, and a 5-inch LCD is mounted vertically on the upper playfield. The playfield illumination uses individually addressable, fully color-changing LEDs throughout, and a magnetic ball-grabber extends out of the Xenomorph head's mouth at the top of the playfield. With an automatic plunger and mostly hidden inductive switches beneath the playfield surface, the Alien blends the film's atmosphere with modern pinball engineering.
